I kept stuggling try to determine why a new site definition I was trying to use to create a site just wasn’t working.

Every time I tried to create a site with it I saw this error:

The template you have chosen is invalid or cannot be found.

Thanks to this post (http://geekswithblogs.net/kjones/archive/2009/12/11/136912.aspx) I found the issue… the Template ID wasn’t unique on my deployment. Picking a new number that wasn’t already in use solved the problem.

Ran across this little gem this week while deploying a solution in SharePoint.

Error: The web.config is invalid on this IIS Web Site: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\VirtualDirectories\YourPathHere\web.config.
